    About Password generator

Weak and reused passwords are the most common way accounts get hacked. A strong password is long, random and different for every site. This password generator creates exactly that, using the cryptographically secure random number generator built into your browser.

Choose a length and the kinds of characters to include, and the generator makes sure every selected kind appears at least once. Store your passwords in a password manager so you only need to remember one master password.

    Truly random

Uses your browser’s cryptographic random generator, the same source used for encryption keys.

    Strength meter

Shows how strong each password is, measured in bits of entropy.

    Never stored or sent

Passwords are created on your device. We cannot see them, and nothing is saved.

    Frequently asked questions

    What makes a password strong?

Length and randomness. A random 16-character password using letters, numbers and symbols would take longer than the age of the universe to guess by brute force.

Is it safe to use an online password generator?

This one is: the password is created in your browser with a cryptographic random generator and is never sent over the internet or saved anywhere.

How long should my password be?

At least 12 characters, and 16 or more for email, banking and other important accounts.

What does “exclude similar characters” do?

It leaves out characters that are easy to confuse, such as 0 and O or 1, l and I, which helps if you need to read or type the password by hand.

Should I use the same password on several sites?

No. If one site is breached, attackers try the same password everywhere. Use a different password for every account.
