About Ideal weight calculator

What should I weigh for my height? This ideal weight calculator answers with four formulas used by doctors and pharmacists, including the Devine formula, which is widely used in hospitals for medication doses. Each gives a slightly different answer, so it also shows the healthy BMI range for your height.

These formulas were designed around adults of average build and do not account for muscle mass, frame size or age. Treat the results as a guide, not a strict target — a healthy weight is one where you feel well and your doctor is happy with your health markers.

Frequently asked questions

What is my ideal weight for my height?

For a 5 ft 6 in woman, the Devine formula gives about 130 lb (59 kg), and a healthy BMI range of roughly 115–154 lb. Enter your height above for your own result.

What is the Devine formula?

Men: 50 kg + 2.3 kg for each inch over 5 feet. Women: 45.5 kg + 2.3 kg for each inch over 5 feet.

Why do the formulas give different answers?

They were developed from different data sets and for different purposes, so they disagree slightly.

Is ideal weight the same as a healthy weight?

Not exactly. Many weights within the healthy BMI range can be healthy, depending on muscle and body shape.

Is this medical advice?

No. Discuss your weight goals with a healthcare professional.
