How do I calculate what I need on my final?
Required score = (desired grade − current grade × (1 − final weight)) ÷ final weight, with the weight as a decimal.
What if I need more than 100%?
Then the target cannot be reached on the final alone. Ask about extra credit or aim for a lower grade.
How much is my final worth?
Check your syllabus. Finals are commonly worth 15–40% of the course grade.
What grade do I need to pass?
Set the “grade you want” to your school’s passing mark — often 60% or 70% — to see the score you need.
Does this work for weighted categories?
Yes, as long as your current grade already reflects all the weighted categories except the final.
