About GST calculator
Goods and Services Tax (GST) is charged on most goods and services in India. This calculator adds GST to a price, or removes it from an amount that already includes GST, and shows how the tax is split.
For a sale within the same state, GST is split equally into Central GST (CGST) and State GST (SGST). For a sale from one state to another, the whole amount is charged as Integrated GST (IGST). Since 22 September 2025 most items fall under the 5% or 18% slabs, with 40% for a small list of luxury and sin goods; the older 12% and 28% slabs still apply to invoices raised before that date.
Add or remove GST
Works both ways: from a price before tax, or back from a GST-inclusive total.
CGST, SGST and IGST
Shows the split for sales within a state and the IGST for sales between states.
Any rate
Quick buttons for common slabs, plus any custom rate.
Frequently asked questions
How do I add GST to a price?
GST amount = price × rate ÷ 100, and the total = price + GST. For example, 18% GST on 1,000 is 180, so the total is 1,180.
How do I remove GST from an inclusive amount?
Price before GST = total × 100 ÷ (100 + rate). For example, 1,180 including 18% GST is 1,000 before tax, with 180 of GST.
What are CGST and SGST?
For a sale within one state, GST is split equally between the Centre (CGST) and the State (SGST). At 18%, that is 9% CGST and 9% SGST.
When is IGST charged?
IGST is charged on sales from one state to another, and on imports. It equals the full GST rate.
What are the current GST rates?
From 22 September 2025 the main slabs are 5% and 18%, with 40% for selected luxury and sin goods, and lower special rates such as 3% for gold. Check the official GST rate list for your item.
